POSITION SUMMARY

The UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world. Central to the UN Global Compact’s strategy are the nearly 70 Global Compact Networks around the world, driving business implementation of the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals at the national and regional levels.

The Consultant will primarily have responsibilities with respect to the rollout and implementation of the SDG Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals in China.

The Consultant will also be responsible for localizing, developing, implementing, measuring and improving the SDG Innovation Accelerator Program for Young Professionals to suit corporate needs in China and provide programmatic service to businesses in the area of SDG Innovation.

The SDG Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals is an opportunity for participating companies of the UN Global Compact to empower young talent within their organizations to collaborate and accelerate business innovation towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This nine-month programme activates future business leaders and changemakers to develop and drive innovative solutions through new technologies, initiatives, and business models and deliver on their company’s sustainability objectives.

Candidates should have exceptional communication and collaboration skills, coordinate projects with acute attention to details, be an effective team player and be a super user across a range of productivity tools and applications. This position will report to Head, China office of UN Global Compact and work closely with accelerator program colleagues in New York. The consultant will be located in Shanghai, China.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide administrative support to track, coordinate and ensure progress on the roll-out of the SDG Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals in China

Serve as the focal administrative point for internal and external program stakeholders (innovators, facilitators, companies etc.)

Coordinate, connect, nurture and support pragramme participants to ensure active engagement, robust networking and timely updates to generate collective impact

Lead the delivery of presentations about the SDG Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals to external audiences (e.g. funders, donors, sponsors, participating companies)

Coordinate the successful implementation of the accelerator among participating companies through effective communication and timely information sharing via the Local Network Hub, Slack and other communication tools

Assist with the guidance and support of the Global Operations team in the development and implementation of programme monitoring tools, which will include, but not be limited to, the data collection, analysis and reporting on programme outcomes and indicators

Support the China office head in navigating partnerships at the country level, helping to identify strategic opportunities around SDG Innovation and find solutions to challenges as needed

Participate in capacity building and training activities for successful delivery of the accelerator  

Manage budgeting and spending for this particular program

Organize local events both online and in-person to advance SDG innovation Accelerator program and drive participant recruitment

Provide input to speech writing and drafting talking points and prepare slides on SDG Innovation

Translate and develop necessary associated materials to engage Chinese audiences for participation and accelerate their corporate actions

collaborate across internal functions involving Participant Engagement, Marketing, Events, and Communication teams to incorporate the concrete plans on SDG Innovation for lead generation, participant recruitment, fund-raising, thought leadership and impact enhancement as an important segment of the programmatic design

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in international relations/development, business administration, public administration or related field

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Communications and Media Relations will provide senior-level expertise, strategic advice and hands-on support for the UN Global Compact in China on communications and media relations.  He or she will be responsible for driving media relations, marketing and communications strategy as well as the conducting daily communications tasks of the UN Global Compact in China. The role will involve hands-on tasks on  news and communications, marketing and media relations including adapting UN Global Compact’s global content for a Chinese audience, writing regional and local news stories or publication on the Chinese websites,  set up a database and maintaining and nurturing media contacts,  feeding  traditional media and social media channels with compelling content, pitching stories to media organizations and communications networks to maximize the impact,  reach and reputation of our work.

As a skilled writer and experienced communications specialist, the senior manager is expected to play a key role in building media and journalist’s networks and collaborate closely with press and media from and present in China, to substantially elevate media coverage and communications channels and impact of UN Global Compact in China. This position reports directly to the Head of China Office of UN Global Compact with a dotted line to the Chief of Communications in New York.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Responsible for drafting and forming a media and communications strategy for UNGC operations in China, with the objective of enhancing publicity and brand exposure of UNGC in the Chinese market targeting key stakeholders;

· Build a media and communications work plan with roadmap and approaches and identify tools and resources suitable for the Chinese business and sustainability context;

· Prepares and disseminates diverse information products; researches, drafts and edits information materials (press releases, press briefing material, presentation decks, speeches, op-eds);

· Write, edit and update the visual and editorial content for UN Global Compact’s Chinese official website and social media, including but not limited to translating global news from English to Chinese; writing  news stories about regional and local activities;

· Write and produce current social media accounts in Chinese on daily basis, including UNGC public WeChat account and UNGC LinkedIn account in Chinese;

· Identify and open new social media channels for UNGC in China to feature UNGC’ and action platform’s main output, deliverables and activities to reach larger company and stakeholder’ base;

· Performs general media liaison/ duties, keeping the media informed of the activities of the UNGC, including by: a) organizing press conferences, arranging interviews, and formulating and provide input to answers to questions from all types of media, b) proactively building, expanding and maintaining UNGC’s network of media contacts in China and broader Asia region;

· Reach out and establish a UNGC media network and develops strategic partnerships with key constituencies to elicit support and maximize impact of activities. Regularly update and communicate with media outlet focal points to increase news coverage on UNGC and its work. Build and maintain media outlets and journalists contact database;

· Under guidance, organize press conference and news briefing, media roundtable to support Head of China office  to promote the priorities of UN Global Compact on the ground;

· Create, develop and edit visual designs and editorial content for talking points, key messages, delivering marketing campaigns, press conference and events, in accordance with UN Global Compact’s design standards and national intellectual property regulations;

· Compile, write, edit, design and market UN Global Compact’s official research outcomes and other strategic publications;

· Leverage internal and external capacity and partners to develop print products and digital flyers customized to audiences in the Chinese business context;

· Liaise regularly with the Communications team in NY and cascade/translate/adapt international content for use in China to drive impact;

· Support China office and collaborate with relevant colleagues on outreach activities, recruitment campaigns and strategic events for UN Global Compact’s work in China by incorporating suitable and specialized content elements and drive media participation and coverage.

· Perform other tasks as assigned;

· Approximately 10% travel intensity.

 

Results Expected

The Senior Manager, Communications and Media Relations, will develop and manage media and communications strategy and implementation as part of China operations team. Under the supervision of Head of China office and in close liaison with communications team at UNGC HQ in New York, he or she will be instrumental to build strong external communications for UNGC in China to ensure contents are updated and tailored to Chinese business and stakeholder groups through both traditional and new media channels and maximize UNGC’s brand and activities exposure in Chinese market. The Senior Manager also supports localization of global content and news and support the promotion of key UNGC workstreams in the region. UNGC’s brand and publicity shall be greatly enhanced as reflected by increasing number and frequency of coverage in the press and media in China and the region.

· Education

Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent degree) in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or related field. A first-level university degree in the specified fields in combination with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

 

· Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in journalism, communications, marketing or public relations is required. Experience working with national or international media outlets and international multi-culture organization is preferred. Experience in writing news articles on issues related to or knowledge of international affairs, corporate sustainability and ESG issues is desirable. Experience with the United Nations Common System is a plus.

 

· Languages

Proficiency in both spoken English and Chinese is required for this position. Outstanding writing skills in Chinese is a must.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of Head of China Office, UN Global Compact, the Senior Manager of Academy and Programme Delivery will play a crucial role in advancing the programmatic offerings and delivery in China, including conceptualization, localization and adaptation of Global Compact Academy courses and Global Impact Accelerators and other global programs to fit into Chinese context, and be responsible for designing and organizing Academy trainings and capacity building activities, in close collaboration with internal colleagues and external partners.  


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Lead the localization of Global Compact Academy’s existing global courses in China. Identify and form strategic partnerships with research institutes, think tanks and academia to design and develop new courses catering to Chinese companies’ needs and Chinese market’s priorities, aligned with Global Compact Global and China strategy.

· Responsible for designing and organizing both online and offline training sessions and capacity building activities for Global Compact participants and relevant stakeholders in China.

· Collaborate with global operations team and programs colleagues to launch and roll out Accelerator programs among Chinese companies to facilitate change.

· Work closely with program colleagues to design, develop and deliver courses and training sessions focusing on ten principles of Global Compact.

· Research, Analyze and monitor sustainability trends and topics in China to better inform China and global office with latest information and updates.

· Lead the design and conceptualization of an academy and training menu for the UN Global Compact in China and provide substantial input to marketing campaigns and media promotion purposes.

· Plan and manage the translation process of the existing programmatic offerings and the supporting materials and documents whenever necessary.

· Develop capacity-building materials, such as presentation deck, brochures, video clips, to better cater the target audiences.

· Monitor the progress of the programmatic offerings, report on the progress status internally, and scheme calibration plan, as necessary, to ensure the successful delivery.

· Set and implement the proper performance tracking plan based on the relevant KPIs set forth in the China Strategy and the specific contextual needs in China. Conduct customer satisfactory survey to collect and analyze feedback from training participants for continuous improvements.

· Build up and maintain the community and network of Global Compact Academy Training Alumni, and develop and implement the engagement plan for insights and expertise sharing.

· Keep proactive breast of the trend and what’s-new on corporate sustainability, SDGs and ESG to explore new capacity-building opportunities for scaling UNGC’s impact in China.

· Collaborate with partners to explore innovative and new capacity-building opportunities and organize contents to match the demands of the target audiences at different levels, including both executive level and mid-management level. Such as, revitalize UNGC Academy board programmes for Chinese context.

· Leverage programmatic offerings and training sessions as opportunities for recruitment, fund-raising and event sponsorship.

Results Expected

Overall, the Senior Manager, Academy and Programme Delivery will lead, manage and ensure the planning, designing, localization, implementation, performance monitoring and continuous development of the strategic programmatic offerings and capacity building including academy course design and trainings in China. The successful programmatic offerings aim to cater different target groups by efficiently leveraging both internal and external resources as well as partnership to produce quality contents and training programs to maximize impact. The delivered programmatic offerings shall be proven value-added to both target groups at different levels and UNGC’s impact enhancement in China with measurable progress.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and localizing the value proposition, conducting outreach and awareness raising activities, and most importantly recruiting new corporate participants and retaining existing participants to reach annual growth target set in UNGC China strategy and providing membership services to maximize the collective impact of UN Global Compact’s participants in China towards the SDGs. 

The Senior Manager will report to the Head of China Office and work in close collaboration with Outreach & Engagement team and programs team based in New York.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Lead the localization of global value proposition tailored for Chinese business needs and priorities.  Produce and update UNGC brochure in Chinese with strong value proposition and clearly designed menu of services to members.

· Identify, utilize and streamline engagement channels, tools and tactics for UNGC to recruit new corporate participants in sustainable manner in China.

· Conduct market intelligence collection and data analytics, take responsibility for annual and quarterly recruitment and retention efforts to reach annual growth target in China. Make monthly work plans and execute accordingly in a measurable manner.

· Manage salesforce and Pardot database to track and expedite progress and produce regular reports to analyze and predict participants growth characteristics and trends.

· Design and lead recruitment-driven and sectoral targeted digital campaigns to attract potential members.

· Collaborate with programs colleagues to socialize relevant contents to deepen corporate engagement.

· Leverage internal and external resources to conduct outreach and awareness raising activities.

· Manage and improve the onboarding process of new participants and conduct orientation regularly for participants on UNGC’s offerings and services.

· Establish a mechanism (not limited to questionnaires or surveys) for regular updates, collections of needs, inputs and feedback from active participants and continue to improve the membership services design, mechanism and offerings.

· Actively engage non-communicating participants and reach annual target with objective of minimizing non-communicating participants and avoiding de-listings.

· Engage existing participants to remain active to reach annual retention target, realize the value of submitting an annual report on progress and conduct data analysis to summarize progress, and deepen their engagement in programs and projects to maximize SDG impact.  

· Constantly monitor business needs and sustainability news/challenges from UNGC participants from China, and reach out to them to take up the opportunities the UN Global Compact has to help them make progress.

· Develop presentations contents, identify public engagements and member growth opportunities, and constantly creating accurate data and quality contents for social media, website etc. to enhance the awareness and reach of the UN Global Compact in China.

· Support Head of China office on fund-raising efforts and activities. Develop sponsorship proposals that will mobilize resources for UNGC, leveraging market intelligence, projects and content expertise.

· Actively use and shape tools, systems, and processes to support the improvement of China Operations and Participant Engagement teams efficiency and company satisfaction over quality service delivery and value proposition, including the Global Compact database, CRM software (Salesforce), tracking and reporting systems.

· Approximately 15-20% travel.

Job Summary
